How to use Sofra

A walk through every screen, from your first sign-in to your profile — and the simple daily habit that makes it all work.

Getting started

Sign in & set up your household

1 · Sign in

Open Sofra and sign in with Google, or create an account with your email. It takes about five seconds — no lengthy onboarding.

2 · Create or join a household

A household is your family's shared space — everyone in it sees the same meals, plans, and insights. Create a new one (name it, e.g. "The Rajwades") and you become the admin, or join an existing household with the invite code a family member shares.

3 · Set your meal types

In Profile → Meal preferences, choose which meals you plan — lunch and dinner by default; add breakfast or snack if you like. This shapes what "Today's meals" shows.

The screens

Everything, screen by screen

Sign in screen

Your first screen — get in and start in seconds.

  • Sign in with email & password, or one tap with Continue with Google.
  • Forgot password? sends a reset link to your inbox.
  • New here? Sign up takes you to create your account.
Create your account and household

Register & set up your household

Create your account with your name, email, and password — and name your household in the same step.

  • A household is your family's shared space; everyone in it sees the same meals, plans, and insights.
  • Name a new household to become its admin — or leave it blank and join an existing one with the invite code a family member shares.
  • Prefer Google? Continue with Google works here too.
Home screen

Home

Your next meal first — the moment you open the app.

  • A greeting, your logging streak, and who in the family added which meal.
  • Next up — lunch until mid-afternoon, then Tonight — with your own dish photo (or its illustration), sides, and a Recipe button when the dish has one.
  • Earlier today / Later today, and from 2:30 PM a compact Tomorrow card with lunch, dinner and the kids' lunchbox.
  • This month — your home-cooked %, then outside food, unique dishes, budget left and kids lunchboxes. Tap any number to dive in, or share the home-cooked badge.
  • Shortcuts: a smart Plan button that knows which days are open, Grocery list, Dish library and Restaurants.
  • When nothing is planned yet, Quick ideas offer recent dishes and ones you haven't made in a while.
  • New families see a short setup checklist instead. Prefer the original dashboard? Settings → Appearance → Home screen → Classic.
Calendar screen

Calendar

Your family's meal history and plan, week by week.

  • Each day shows its meals with source colours (home, takeout, dine-out).
  • A Today marker keeps you oriented.
  • Flip the Kids lunchbox switch to add and view the kids' lunchbox for each school day.
  • Calendar always opens on this week and scrolls to today; Today appears when you move to another week.
  • Tap any slot to add or edit a meal.
Plan screen

Plan your week

The magic: an auto-generated week built from your own cooking history.

  • Tap Generate and Sofra fills the week — avoiding dishes you made recently, mixing cuisines, and respecting your dine-out limit.
  • Flip the Kids lunchbox switch to plan school lunchboxes from the kids' own dishes.
  • After generating, a short note explains how the plan was made (no repeats within your chosen days, mixed cuisines, dine-out limit) with a link to change the rules.
  • Edit any suggestion, then Accept to save it to your calendar.
Confetti celebration when a plan is accepted

A little celebration

Accepting a week's plan is a small win — so Sofra marks it with a burst of confetti before your plan lands on the calendar.

  • Fires the moment you tap Accept plan.
  • Your generated week is saved to the calendar for the whole household.
  • A gentle reminder that planning ahead is worth celebrating.
Insights screen

Insights

Honest patterns about how your family eats and spends.

  • Swipe the range — this week, this month, last month, last 3 months, all.
  • Home vs. outside ratio and spending trend.
  • Top restaurants, cuisine variety, and a ranked most-cooked dishes list — counts follow the range you pick, and you can tap any dish to open it in your library.
  • A dedicated kids lunchbox card with variety and repeat-alerts.
  • Tap share on any insight to post a branded card.

Add a meal

Choose the source (home, takeout, dine-out) and who it's for (family or kids lunchbox). For home meals, add the main dish plus sides, and optionally a photo of the dish. For dine-outs, list the dishes you ordered and rate each with stars — Sofra remembers what to order (and what to skip) next time. Cuisine, cost, and notes are optional.

Dish Library

Every dish your family has ever made, searchable and filterable by cuisine, favourites, or "not made in 30+ days", and sorted by how often you cook it. Star your favourites; tap a dish to see how often and how recently you've cooked it. Open it from a "this month" card and the counts are scoped to that period; open the full library for all-time totals.

Restaurants

Everywhere you've dined out or ordered from — visits, spend, and last visit. Tap a place to see the dishes you've ordered there with your star ratings. Switch to All for a compact, scannable list even with hundreds of restaurants.

Profile & Settings

Your photo and details in one compact card (tap the photo to change it), then your household, invite code and family members. Admins can make others admins or remove someone. Settings holds appearance (auto / light / dark, and Enhanced or Classic home screen), reminders (daily / weekly / monthly), and account controls. Meal preferences and auto-plan rules live in Profile.

The one daily habit

Log your meals as you go — it takes seconds. Within a week or two, your dashboard, insights, and auto-plans come alive. That's the whole trick: Sofra is only as smart as the memory you give it, and giving it that memory is nearly effortless.
